Station History:
This is Birmingham's oldest TV station, signing on in April, 1949, a whole month before WBRC. Channel 13 was originally WABT, and was affiliated with WAPI-AM, which also owned WAPI-FM (which was WAFM -- apparently WAPI wanted to stand alone.) Later became WAPI-TV, but changed to WVTM (Vulcan Times Mirror) when WAPI sold the station to Times Mirror Broadcasting. Currently WVTM is owned and operated by NBC, which means Birmingham has two network owned and operated stations (WBRC being the other).
