Station History:

WPMI came on the air in 1981 as the market's first independent (calls stood for Pensacola Mobile Independent). The station transmits with maximum power from a tall tower halfway between the two cities. Became "Fox 15" when that network began but changed to NBC in 1997 when WALA was purchased by Fox. Has been aquired by media giant Clear Channel Communications, which ownes about a half-dozen radio stations in the area now.
