FM History Profile: WMXS

History:
This station began as a tax write off for the Montgomery Advertiser/Journal. The calls were WAJM. Was the city's first FM top 40 station, albeit briefly, in the mid 70's, as WMGZ (Z 103). As a weaker signal in town (at the time) than the competition, it switched to beautiful music with the WREZ calls. Later it switched to a lighter AC format as Sunny 103, WSYA-FM, simulcasting WSYA-AM 950. Eventually the format became a little more hot AC-like with only 80's and 90's music. The calls were changed again, this time to WMXS (Mix 103.3, then just Mix 103).
