AM History Profile: WKYD

History:
Early on the calls were WCTA-AM. The station had an FM companion when FM was still a novelty. A new owner changed the AM and FM stations to country in the mid-70's, with a new call: WKYD. The AM was 5 kW days, 500 watts nights, with a 3 tower directional antenna. In the mid-90's, the station adopted a satellite-fed nostalgia format.
Alex adds, "About 5 years ago I travelled a 4-lane bypass that had gone right between two of the three towers. Now that the station is listed with 40 watts nights, it is likely that the directional antenna pattern was abandoned and the station stays on nights with the maximum allowed on a non-directional antenna  basis.
