AM History Profile: WFMI

History:
1000 was originally WFMI (Fine Music Incorporated) on 1500 kHz; moved to 1000 for better daytime coverage. Was beautiful music. Simulcast WFMI-FM 98.9. During the 70's, their calls were WQTY (QualiTY radio). In the late 70's the station briefly took on the WABT calls discarded by WBIL in Tuskegee, and adopted a personality oriented MoR / nostalgia format. The highlight was the stations'Saturday morning trivia show. The license for this station was allowed to lapse after the FCC rejected the application for nighttime operation. The frequency has been removed by the FCC in deference to clear channel 1000 in Chicago.
